Solid cloud cover today, with a faint SW drift and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac de la Veuve along reed fringes and open pockets. The day peaks in the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Estrie, Quebec, this is Lac de la Veuve. The country here is rolling bush. Surface area is around 10 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 1.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The town to know is Lac-Mégantic, 19 km out. After that come Saint-Éphrem-de-Beauce at 36 km and Adstock at 37 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Estrie include rainbow trout, white sucker, pumpkinseed and brook trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Lac de la Veuve where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -12°C at the bottom of winter. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac de la Veuve.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A camping area sits within 660 m of here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Drolet is 1.4 km off. Ask locally about Lac de la Veuve if anything is unclear.
