Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a whisper of wind from the S and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac des Morenes should hold close to the calm side of the wind. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Quebec, Lac des Morenes belongs to Laurentides. It stands 307 metres above sea level. It measures about 11 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 3.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. La Minerve sits 19 km from the bank. Orléans sits 93 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lac des Morenes gives up more to patience than to distance.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Expect Lac des Morenes to follow that timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Lac Ecly is 1.4 km distant. Signs at Lac des Morenes carry more weight than any list.
