• Overview

  Mauricie, Quebec, is where Lac des Moineaux sits. Pine and birch runs right down to the water. With some 30 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 3.2 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The closest town, La Tuque, is 45 km distant. Trois-Rivières sits 92 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

• Where to Fish on Lac des Moineaux

  We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac des Moineaux gives up more to patience than to distance.
