Overcast skies today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Activity on Lac de la Musaraigne should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac de la Musaraigne sits. It lies 527 metres above sea level. With some 27 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 2.7 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. For a base, Normandin sits 62 km out. Further out sit Albanel (68 km) and Saint-Félicien (69 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Treat Lac de la Musaraigne as a water to read rather than to cover.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Lac de la Musaraigne runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Lac Jolivet is 0.8 km distant. Rules at Lac de la Musaraigne are worth checking on the day.
