No direct sun expected today, with a persistent wind from the S with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac de la Mousse around shallow cover and weed edges. The morning should out-fish the rest of the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Quebec holds Lac de la Mousse, in Capitale-Nationale. This is mixed forest country. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Capitale-Nationale list. The closest town, Laurentides, is 17 km away. Sainte-Foy sits 86 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Capitale-Nationale names lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac de la Mousse the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -15°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan any trip to Lac de la Mousse around it.
Access is not recorded for this water. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Nan, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac de la Mousse in particular, ask before you travel.
