Solid cloud cover today, with a kind SSW breeze on the water with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lac de la Chance should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac de la Chance is a Côte-Nord water, in Quebec. The shore lies 30 km out. Surface area is around 30 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. About 4.0 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Sept-Îles is the closest town at 40 km. The big place round here is Saguenay, 386 km distant. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Take Lac de la Chance a stretch at a time.
Average temperature peaks around 15°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Count the season from break-up, usually mid May. On average, mid May opens the water and early November closes it again. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac de la Chance.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac du Siffleux, 0.9 km away. Check the position on Lac de la Chance before loading the car.
