A grey, even sky over the water, with the water lying quiet and steady pressure. Activity on Lac de la Belle Rive should centre on the shallows early and the drop later. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Lac de la Belle Rive belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Around the bank it is spruce and muskeg. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 3.3 km of margin, front to back. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Labrecque is the closest place, 90 km off. After that come Saint-Honoré at 91 km and Saint-Ambroise at 94 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac de la Belle Rive light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near mid May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac de la Belle Rive fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac du Boulanger is 1.3 km off. Signs at Lac de la Belle Rive carry more weight than any list.
