Steady rain over the water today, with a persistent wind from the SSW with a settled glass. Lac Day should fish best around the margins and the shelf beyond them today. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Mauricie, Lac Day is a Quebec water. It sits in northern bush country. It measures about 45 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. There is roughly 5.4 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. Leblanc sits 68 km from the bank. For a city, Saguenay is 249 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Read Lac Day before you fish it and the day goes better.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -18°C for January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Day fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Lac Terminal, 2.1 km out. Rules at Lac Day are worth checking on the day.
