An even grey lid over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Craig should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Outaouais, Quebec, is where Lac Craig sits. Height above sea level is 264 metres. The water measures roughly 6 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Wakefield lies 23 km from the water. Constance Bay follows at 28 km, then Cantley at 32 km. Also on the doorstep: Lac Hickey (1.8 km), Lac de la Marche lies 1.9 km on, Lac Sellar (2.3 km), Petit lac a Louis lies 2.3 km on and Lac Cameron (2.4 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Craig before you fish it and the day goes better.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly early December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Lac Craig runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Hickey sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. Where Lac Craig is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
