Solid cloud cover today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with a settled glass. On Lac Claude, work any hard bottom among the soft first. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Claude is one of the Côte-Nord waters in Quebec. The bank is 425 metres above sea level. At about 60 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 4.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Baie-Comeau lies 99 km from the water. Port-Cartier is 100 km and Saint-Alexandre 100 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Lac Claude gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
In an average year July sits at 15°C and January at -19°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid May. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about early November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lac Claude runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac de Marseille is 2.2 km distant.
