Flat light and a covered sky today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Marthe should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

The Côte-Nord end of Quebec holds Lac Marthe. What surrounds it is boreal forest. It measures about 37 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With about 3.9 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Start from Baie-Comeau, 95 km down the road. Beyond it, Hauterive at 96 km and Chute-aux-Outardes at 104 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Côte-Nord cover logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Lac Marthe the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
In an average year July sits at 15°C and January at -19°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. In an average year the thaw lands around mid May and the freeze near early November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Marthe runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Lac Pourroy, 2.4 km away. Rules at Lac Marthe are worth checking on the day.
