Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a gentle ripple from the SSE and pressure sitting still. On Lac Carter, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

This water sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The ground around here is boreal forest. It covers about 7 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Normandin lies 36 km from the water. Albanel is 37 km away, with Dolbeau-Mistassini at 52 km. Other water within reach: 1.9 km away is Lac Senechal, Petit lac Montreal some 2.2 km off, 2.7 km away is Lac du Depot, Lac Montreal some 2.8 km off and 3.1 km away is Lac des Iles. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Fish Lac Carter where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -19°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Carter.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac Senechal, 1.9 km away. Check the position on Lac Carter before loading the car.
