An even grey lid over the water, with mild air moving in from the SSE with a settled glass. Activity on Lac a Bolduc should centre on sheltered bays and points. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Settle in and let the day develop. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

In Quebec, Lac a Bolduc falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The setting is taiga. Nearest place of any size is Normandin, 40 km away. Beyond it, Albanel at 41 km and Dolbeau-Mistassini at 54 km. Not far off: Lac Brule 2.1 km, Lac des Iles (2.4 km), Lac Jumeau Sud 3.1 km, Petit lac Montreal (3.2 km) and Lac Montreal 3.7 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac a Bolduc the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. That is the shape of the year on Lac a Bolduc.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Lac Brule is 2.1 km off. Nothing on Lac a Bolduc should be assumed from this page alone.
