Heavy overcast holding through the day, with the surface near flat and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Caron should come off sheltered bays and points. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Out in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, sits Lac Caron. Height above sea level is 439 metres. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Shoreline comes to about 3.3 km, small enough to learn in a day. Senneterre at 107 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Leblanc at 114 km and Lebel-sur-Quévillon at 134 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Lac Caron light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac Caron runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac des Mille Iles, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Caron may have changed since it was mapped.
