An even grey lid over the water, with a light SSW breeze and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Calk should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Calk sits in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, out in Quebec. This is taiga ground. Small at around 7 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The closest town, Senneterre, is 115 km distant. The big place round here is Gatineau, 267 km distant. What else is close: Lac Wool 1.4 km, Lac Cant some 1.7 km off, Lac Tudor 2 km, Lac Pyrex some 2.4 km off and Lac Hame 2.8 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Take Lac Calk a stretch at a time.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Calk rarely departs from it.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Wool at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Lac Calk carry more weight than any list.
