An even grey lid over the water, with a decent S wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Brown should come off any hard bottom among the soft. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Brown in the Laurentides part of Quebec. The surroundings are taiga. With some 15 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 1.8 km on foot. Head to Rivière-Rouge, 44 km away, for anything you forgot. The nearest city of size is Saint-Louis-de-Terrebonne, 150 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Laurentides: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Fish Lac Brown to its features, not to its size.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Expect Lac Brown to follow that timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data records a pier about 690 m out. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Ambo, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Brown if anything is unclear.
