Damp, showery conditions today, with a working SSW breeze with the barometer flat. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Lac Bob. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Bob. Everything around it is boreal forest. It runs to roughly 12 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 2.5 km keeps the choices simple. The nearest place of any size is Leblanc, 67 km away. It is 271 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Bob the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The warm month here averages 17°C; the cold one sits at -17°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac Bob the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Serge, 2.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Bob if anything is unclear.
