A half-covered sky tonight, with an easy breeze from the S with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Blais should come off any hard bottom among the soft. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Outaouais, Quebec, this is Lac Blais. It sits at 246 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 48 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The full circuit measures close to 4.0 km on foot. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel, 11 km away. Then Ripon, 18 km, and Saint-André-Avellin, 25 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Read Lac Blais before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Time your trip to Lac Blais by conditions rather than dates.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac Croche, 0.8 km away. Check the current arrangement for Lac Blais.
