No direct sun expected today, with a gentle ripple from the NNW and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Lac Blackbird around the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Lac Blackbird is one of the Côte-Nord waters in Quebec. The bank is 462 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 2.02 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. You are looking at roughly 13 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. On our Côte-Nord list it sits near the top for size. Start from Labrador City, 256 km down the road. Further out sit Wabush (261 km) and Fermont (272 km). The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Lac Blackbird where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Averages move between -24°C in January and 11°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early June. Climate figures give an open season running early June to late October. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Blackbird rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Lac Jack, 4.6 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Blackbird for certain.
