Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the SW and no real change in pressure. Lac Bess should fish best around inflow corners and shaded margins today. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Lac Bess falls in Côte-Nord, part of Quebec. The setting is rolling bush on every side. At about 10 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 1.4 km of margin, front to back. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Start from Baie-Comeau, 45 km down the road. Hauterive is 53 km away, with Chute-aux-Outardes at 66 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Côte-Nord include logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Lac Bess where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about -14°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Lac Bess rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac des Seaux, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac Bess as something to verify.
