An even grey lid over the water, with light air out of the SW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac a la Hache should come off any hard bottom among the soft. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Set in Côte-Nord, Quebec, this is Lac a la Hache. The sea is 15 km distant. Start from Baie-Comeau, 42 km down the road. Hauterive is 50 km and Chute-aux-Outardes 63 km. Close by you have: Lac des Seaux after 1.8 km, Lac Evelyn 2.5 km, Lac Flo after 3 km, Lac Bess 3.1 km and Lac Malfait after 3.1 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Côte-Nord cover logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Lac a la Hache the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It holds true on Lac a la Hache more years than not.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac des Seaux at 1.8 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac a la Hache in what we hold.
