Solid cloud cover today, with an easy breeze from the S and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac Ben should hold close to the margins and the shelf beyond them. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Ben falls in Outaouais, part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 214 metres. It covers about 10 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Bank access stretches around 1.4 km in total. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Constance Bay lies 13 km from the water. Gatineau sits 38 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. The near bank of Lac Ben is often the one people ignore.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -12°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac Ben regularly works to that calendar.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Leblanc, 1.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Lac Ben as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
