A day shaped by the wind, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind with the glass holding level. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Lac Belec. The productive run goes the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Belec sits within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec. It sits at 418 metres above sea level. With some 17 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 2.1 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. For supplies, Normandin is 71 km out. Albanel lies 74 km off, Saint-Félicien another 86 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Belec responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Belec.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Dufy sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Lac Belec carry more weight than any list.
