Heavy overcast holding through the day, with mild air moving in from the SW and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Baliveau, work the seam between weed and open water first. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Lac Baliveau in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. Everything around it is spruce and muskeg. It runs to roughly 12 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 2.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. 67 km away sits Val-d'Or, the nearest town. Further out sit Senneterre (80 km) and Malartic (88 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Baliveau responds to conditions more than to tactics.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -16°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Baliveau.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Neuvier at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Baliveau are worth checking on the day.
