An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Ayotte should come off points where shallow meets deep. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Ayotte. It stands 458 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to roughly 1.56 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Leblanc, 28 km away. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 225 km distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Lac Ayotte light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -17°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Expect Lac Ayotte to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Petit lac au Sable at 1.6 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Ayotte for certain.
