Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac de la Chance. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac de la Chance is set in Mauricie, Quebec. Boreal forest runs right down to the water. The water covers some 12 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 1.8 km of margin, front to back. Head to Weymontachie, 27 km away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, Leblanc at 32 km and Manawan at 95 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Take Lac de la Chance a stretch at a time.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -17°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Lac de la Chance follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac a la Truite, 1.1 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lac de la Chance for certain.
