Steady rain over the water today, with a light chop building from the S and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Altman should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

The Côte-Nord entry here is Lac Altman, in Quebec. The ground round it is spruce and muskeg. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Côte-Nord list. For a base, Saint-Honoré sits 115 km out. Further out sit Forestville (115 km) and Saint-Fulgence (117 km). The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac Altman the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid May. Open water usually runs from mid May until about mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Altman fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac Carmen, 0.9 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Altman for certain.
