A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the S and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Allegre is sheltered bays and points. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac Allegre is a Quebec water. The water sits 313 metres up. You are 54 km from Normandin. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 171 km away. Water in the same corner: Lac Hopi near enough 1.4 km, Lac Charix a shade over 2 km, Lac en Or near enough 2.5 km, Lac des Tronchets a shade over 3 km and Lac Hirbour near enough 3.4 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Allegre the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. On Lac Allegre the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Lac Hopi at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. Check the current arrangement for Lac Allegre.
