Lac Aleu in Lanaudière: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Lac Aleu sits in Lanaudière, out in Quebec. The setting is rolling bush on every side. The far bank is a conversation away, so keep low and quiet. On size it sits at the modest end of our Lanaudière list. The closest town, Saint-Michel-des-Saints, is 16 km distant. It is 100 km to Saint-Louis-de-Terrebonne, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

• Where to Fish on Lac Aleu

  No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Aleu the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Expect July near 17°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Aleu more years than not.

• Tackle & Baits

  Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here.
