Rain moving through today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Alces will be around shallow cover and weed edges. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Within Laurentides, Quebec, you have Lac Alces. It sits at 227 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 16 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 1.8 km in total. It is low-lying compared with other Quebec water we list. For a base, Ferme-Neuve sits 47 km out. Gatineau is the closest city, 165 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Alces repays a walk before the first cast.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Lac Alces rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac Miron, 2.5 km away. For Lac Alces in particular, ask before you travel.
