A wet system passing over today, with a soft SSW wind and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac a Charles should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac a Charles lies in Côte-Nord, in Quebec. Elevation runs to 213 metres. At some 1.73 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The shoreline runs about 12 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. On our Côte-Nord list it sits near the top for size. For a base, Sept-Îles sits 29 km out. The big place round here is Saguenay, 388 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac a Charles light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -16°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Lac a Charles.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Trompeur, 3.5 km away. Check the position on Lac a Charles before loading the car.
