An even grey lid over the water, with a light SSE breeze with the barometer flat. The fish at La Frayere are likely to sit near windblown banks where food collects. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

La Frayere is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. It sits at 600 metres above sea level. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Pont Rouge sits 189 km from the bank. It is 209 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Water in the same corner: Lac Joel within 0.5 km, Lac de la Tortue 0.9 km off, Lac Tibi within 1.4 km, Lac Pepere 2.5 km off and Lac Plie within 2.5 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. La Frayere repays a walk before the first cast.
In an average year July sits at 15°C and January at -21°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid May. Break-up near mid May, freeze-up near early November: that is the shape of an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. La Frayere runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Joel sits 0.5 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on La Frayere should be assumed from this page alone.
