Wilcox Lake, Ontario: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  Wilcox Lake is one of the Grey County waters in Ontario. The bank is 468 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 3.8 km in total. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Markdale is the closest place, 12 km off. The nearest city of size is Barrie, 73 km away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.

• Where to Fish on Wilcox Lake

  Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Grey County cover Chinook salmon, rainbow trout and brook trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Wilcox Lake that means starting tight and working out.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -9°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid April. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Wilcox Lake rarely departs from it.
