Overcast skies today, with a persistent wind from the NW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Wigwam Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Wigwam Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. Around the bank it is spruce and muskeg. The water covers some 40 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 3.9 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. The town to know is Nipigon, 39 km out. Further out sit Amethyst Harbour (88 km) and Shuniah Township (96 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Thunder Bay District records list cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Wigwam Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Plan around that when you fish Wigwam Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Swampy Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Wigwam Lake if anything is unclear.
