Soft grey light all day today, with a light SSE breeze and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Upper Lawrence Lake around the calm side of the wind. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Upper Lawrence Lake lies in Kenora District, in Ontario. It lies 350 metres above sea level. At some 7.32 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. It ranks high for size among our Kenora District listings. Fort Frances lies 68 km from the water. Then International Falls, 69 km, and Vermilion Bay, 71 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Kenora District, recorded fish include northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Upper Lawrence Lake decides where the fish sit.
Climate normals give 19°C for July and -17°C for January. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Upper Lawrence Lake around it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Asheigamo Lake at 4.8 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Upper Lawrence Lake for certain.
