Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a decent WSW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Trail Lake is the weed line and any gaps in it. The forecast is against you; the evening is the least bad option. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Trail Lake lies within the bounds of Sudbury, Ontario. The bank is 408 metres above sea level. Roughly 11 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 1.8 km, and most of it is walkable. Our Sudbury list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Chapleau, 107 km off. Then Timmins, 112 km, and Dowling, 121 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The shape of Trail Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Trail Lake follows the weather closely.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A phone call first saves an afternoon. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Ash Lake is 2.5 km distant. Signs at Trail Lake carry more weight than any list.
