No direct sun expected today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Tilt Lake. Plan around the stretch from afternoon into evening. Change depth before you change anything else. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Sudbury entry here is Tilt Lake, in Ontario. The surface lies 315 metres up. Surface area is around 19 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Roughly 2.4 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Head to Espanola, 26 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Elliot Lake at 45 km and Little Current at 47 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Treat Tilt Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about -12°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It holds true on Tilt Lake more years than not.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Neumann Lake, 2.2 km away. For Tilt Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
