Dull, settled light over the water, with a decent WNW wind working the banks and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Sunnemequat Lake will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

In Ontario, Sunnemequat Lake belongs to Thunder Bay District. Elevation runs to 337 metres. At about 43 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 5.5 km, and each section fishes a little differently. For supplies, Greenstone is 24 km out. The big place round here is Thunder Bay, 209 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Sunnemequat Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -20°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Sunnemequat Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Dilla Lake, 4.1 km away. Check the position at Sunnemequat Lake before loading the car.
