Heavy overcast holding through the day, with steady pressure of wind from the ENE and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Stool Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Stool Lake stands in Kenora District, Ontario. The ground around here is lake country bush. Surface area is around 38 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Around 3.7 km of margin, front to back. Sioux Lookout sits 24 km from the bank. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 257 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Stool Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Stool Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Favot Lake at 1.8 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Stool Lake in what we hold.
