Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Grade Lake along the first drop-off and weed lines. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Grade Lake is a Kenora District water, Ontario side. The water sits 396 metres up. It measures about 55 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With about 4.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The town to know is Sioux Lookout, 23 km out. It is 254 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Grade Lake to its features, not to its size.
The range across the year is -18°C to 18°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Expect Grade Lake to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Razor Lake sits 2.7 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm access to Grade Lake locally before you travel.
