A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with a stiffish breeze from the NW and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Stone Lake should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Stone Lake is listed under Algoma, Ontario. It lies 401 metres above sea level. It measures about 32 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Some 5.1 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. The nearest place of any size is Elliot Lake, 16 km away. Greater Sudbury sits 139 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Stone Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Seasonal averages run from -12°C in January up to 18°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That is the shape of the year on Stone Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Spring Lake, 2.2 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Stone Lake for certain.
