A clear night sky over the water, with mild air moving in from the S with the barometer flat. Start the search at Stennett Lake along the margins and the shelf beyond them. Save your energy for the evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Stennett Lake sits in Thunder Bay District, out in Ontario. The surroundings are rolling bush. At about 50 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Some 6.0 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Head to Lappe, 63 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 84 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Stennett Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -20°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Stennett Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Demars Lake sits 3 km off and takes the overflow. For Stennett Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
