Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Demars Lake is the weed line and any gaps in it. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Thunder Bay District end of Ontario holds Demars Lake. It lies 450 metres above sea level. Roughly 1.45 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. The perimeter runs near 12 km, so plan the walk before you start. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. The closest town, Lappe, is 60 km distant. It is 82 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Thunder Bay District records list cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Demars Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -20°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Demars Lake rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Vester Lake sits 1.9 km off and takes the overflow. For Demars Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
