Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with enough W wind to stack food downwind with a settled glass. The water to cover at Southwind Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Nipissing District in Ontario is where Southwind Lake sits. It sits at 287 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 18 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Mattawa sits 51 km from here and is the nearest stop. Further out sit Deep River (55 km) and Chalk River (58 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Public occurrence data for Nipissing District names smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Southwind Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Southwind Lake rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. East Plover Lake sits 1.7 km off and takes the overflow.
