An even grey lid over the water, with just enough SSE wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Rose Lake around shallow cover and weed edges. Save your energy for the evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Rose Lake sits within Nipissing District in Ontario. It stands 438 metres above sea level. With some 16 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 2.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Haliburton Village lies 58 km off, Bancroft another 67 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Nipissing District: smallmouth bass, cisco and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Rose Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan any trip to Rose Lake around it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Fork Lake at 1.9 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Rose Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
