Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Fraser Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. A broad window opens from night into morning. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Within Nipissing District, Ontario, you have Fraser Lake. It lies 435 metres above sea level. Roughly 52 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 7.1 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. Haliburton Village follows at 55 km, then Bancroft at 64 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. The shape of Fraser Lake decides where the fish sit.
The seasonal spread runs -13°C to 18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Fraser Lake rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. You can camp about 180 m away, going by the mapping. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Sylvia Lake, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Fraser Lake before loading the car.
