Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light chop building from the W with a settled glass. Most of the action on Pogo Lake should come off the shallows early and the drop later. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Night
The Algoma end of Ontario holds Pogo Lake. It sits at 357 metres above sea level. At about 11 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 1.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. Chapleau at 61 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Wawa (69 km) and Hornepayne (123 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. The county list is broader than any single water. At Pogo Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Pogo Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is Green Tree Lake, 2.2 km out. Confirm access to Pogo Lake locally before you travel.
