Solid cloud cover today, with almost no wind to speak of and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Ash Lake around the weed line and any gaps in it. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Ash Lake lies in Algoma, Ontario. Beyond the shoreline you have taiga. At some 3.68 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. With about 33 km of shoreline, local advice saves a lot of walking. Few waters listed in Algoma are bigger. The town to know is Chapleau, 63 km out. Wawa is 66 km and Hornepayne 121 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Ash Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Ash Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Shemeket Lake at 2 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Ash Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
