Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a persistent wind from the WNW and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Pine Lake is points where shallow meets deep. A day for grinding out a result rather than chasing a peak. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Night
Pine Lake falls in Kenora District, part of Ontario. The bank is 365 metres above sea level. Roughly 38 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 4.9 km in total. Kenora is the closest place, 33 km off. Vermilion Bay follows at 79 km, then Moose Lake at 113 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Kenora District names northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Pine Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Pine Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Pothole Lake at 5 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Pine Lake in what we hold.
