Flat light and a covered sky today, with a persistent wind from the ENE with a settled glass. The water to cover at Corn Lake is the shallows early and the drop later. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Corn Lake in Kenora District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 322 metres. This is sizeable water at about 3.21 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 18 km, so plan the walk before you start. The nearest town is Kenora, 24 km away. Beyond it, Vermilion Bay at 77 km and Moose Lake at 106 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Corn Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical July readings run about 19°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Corn Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Jacks Lake, 2.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Corn Lake if anything is unclear.
